free2auction offers many tools to manage large
numbers of listings and data. One of the most powerful
tools is the CSV import and export tool, which allows
the data you work with on free2auction to be
imported and exported using a formatted text file
(for example to and from a database you work on locally).

CSV import and export tool configuration
When you enter the CSV import or export page, the
first section gives you a list of the current fields
that will be exported or imported, if you are importing
data this section also offers you a box to import
a formatted text file from your computer to be processed,
or you may paste your formatted text directly into
the given box.
If you are exporting data the first section offers
a box where you may enter a list of ids, separated
by commas, that you wish to export.
Below the first section are two sections for configuring
the import or export data. The first handles how the
data will be formatted, it contains the following options:
field terminator:
This character,
or string of characters, is entered in between each
field value. The most common field terminator is a
comma.
record terminator:
This character,
or string of characters, is entered at the end of
each record. The most common record terminator is
a new line (return) which is represented in the CSV
import export tool be '^p'.
fields enclosed
by: If you have some
fields enclosed, this character, or string of characters
will be placed at the beginning and end of those fields.
escape character:
The escape character,
or string of characters, is necessary when the field
or record terminators, or the enclose string are part
of the data inside a field. The escape character will
be placed in front of any of these values within the
data, for example if your field terminator is a comma,
and your escape character is a backslash, and your
data is "My House, /\ Is Home", then the data will
be altered to "My House\, /\\ Is Home". Note that
the escape character must also be doubled up to represent
its actual value.
include title
row: If this setting
is turned on the first row of the imported or exported
data will list the names of the fields being processed.
The field and record terminator may include new lines/returns
(represented by '^p'), tabs (represented by '^t'),
spaces (represented by '^s'), and the '^' character
(represented by '^^').
Below the CSV formatting section is the field configuration
section. In this section you may enter a comma separated
list of the fields you wish to import or export (represented
by field id numbers), the order that you enter the field
ids is the order in which the data will be processed.
At the bottom of this section is a list of all the possible
fields you may choose from, and you may select any combination
of these fields for your data. You may also represent
a blank or unused field by entering a zero ('0') as
the field id. If you wish to have some fields enclosed,
put a double quote before and after the field id number.
If you wish to have returns removed from a field when
exporting (for example the description field) enclose
the field id (and quotes if used) by sqaure brackets,
for example "1", 2, ["5"] will enclose
field ids 1 and 5, and will remove returns from field
id 5.
When importing data often fields offer default values,
this allows you to remove some fields from your data
that are not used or are always equal to the given
default value. Default values are listed next to each
possible field in the last section.
Once you have configured the CSV tool to your requirements
you may save the configuration as your default. The
saved configuration will only relate to the data import
or export that you are presently working with, this
allows you to have different default configurations
for each type of data you wish to import or export.
